Pimento Cheese
The best pimento cheese sandwich can be found at the Peninsula Creamery in Palo Alto, California. It costs $7 and is thick with the cheese. It was recommended to me on toasted light rye, bread which is warm and sliced. Accompanied by an orange whip, it makes for a perfect lunch.
The pimento cheese at the Peninsula Creamery is made daily by the co-owner, a woman from Mexico. Its offering on the menu is announced in handwriting on a chalkboard behind the counter.
Located at the corner of High Street and Channing Avenue, the restaurant is a small diner with a main grill that is turned off a half hour before closing. Visible through the windows of the diner is a spa, catty-cornered across the street in one direction, and an Ace Hardware with a sign, posted high, of the store's original name, “Hassett Hardware”, in another direction.
